Sixteen animal shelters in Maryland are betting that 2,000 of you won’t be able to resist those big feline eyes, that soft fur and that playful nature — especially when it’s combined with a bargain basement price.

These humane societies and shelters have agreed to temporarily waive standard adoption fees for cats starting on Saturday with the goal of finding homes for 2,000 cats before the program ends July 31.

In addition, prospective human parents who adopt from one of the four shelters run by the Baltimore Animal Welfare Alliance will get a certificate promising them a free cat exam by the Cat Hospital at Towson, as well as a goody bag.
