That zig zag line is an imaginary line called as "International date line" (IDL) on the surface of the earth approximately follow 180° meridian (longitude).
It separates one day from the next. If you cross the IDL, the date changes i.e., from East to West, loss of one day will happen and from West to East, one gains a day.
