1.GATE: GATE give multiple opportunities for engineering graduates.

Higher Studies-If the candidates interested in pursuing Masters in Engineering(M.S/M.E)/Ph.D they can go with GATE exam.If their ranks are good,they will be eligible for doing their Masters/Ph.D in premier institutes like IISC,IITs,NITs with stipend. Some of such institutes offer dual degrees too.Some institutes like NITIE offer MBA courses through GATE score.Also,international institutes like National University of Singapore,RWTH Aachen in Germany gives admission based on GATE score.
PSUs-Various PSUs like IOCL,PGCIL,BPCL,BEML,NTPC,etc recruit engineering graduates based on their GATE score. The CPC of such PSUs will be around 6 lakhs to 14 lakhs per annum.
JRF-Clearing GATE with good score is also an eligibility clause for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories.
2.GRE: Graduate Record Examinations(GRE) is accepted by most of the top level graduate institutes for Master level Programs in foreign countries.Most of the institutes offer MBA admissions through the GRE score.So if the student’s interest is towards higher studies in foreign institutes,the can opt for GRE exam.

3.GMAT:Like GRE,GMAT is for the candidates who wish to join in business schools in foreign universities. But nowadays,most of the candidates prefer GRE ,since with GRE score you can choose either MS or MBA or even dual degree programs.But with GMAT your choice is towards business schools.

4.SSC-CGL: Staff selection Commission-Combined Graduate Level exam is conducted by staff selection commission to recruit staffs for various GROUP B & GROUP C posts in ministries,government departments and offices across the country. The structure of SSC-CGL exam consists of Preliminary exam followed by main exam.

5.UPSC EXAMINATIONS: There are various exams conducted by Union Public Service Commission throughout the year across the country. Engineering Service Examination(ESE) is conducted by UPSC every year for GROUP A services in engineering.Apart from ESE,there are other exams conducted by UPSC, for which engineering graduates are eligible.Such exams include IAS(Indian Administrative Service),IRS(Indian Revenue Service),IFS(Indian Foreign Service),IES(Indian Economic Service),etc..

6.BANKING JOBS: This is for the candidates who are interested towards banking sector. Various exams are conducted by IBPS,SBI for the post of Probationary officers and clerks through out the year.

7.PSU Exams: Some of the PSUs such as ISRO,COAL INDIA,BARC conducts exams by their own for recruiting engineering candidates.The pattern and syllabus will be different for different PSU exams. So,its important to analyse the syllabus and structure of such exams before their preparations.

8.STATE LEVEL EXAMS: Some exams are conducted by the state government for various posts like Assistant engineer(AE),Junior Engineers(JE),etc .These exams will be comparatively easier than other competitive exams like GATE,ESE.
