    1. Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji, the second Prime Minister of India, shares birthday with Mahatma Gandhi, was short in his physical stature but tall in his resolve. He coined one of the greatest slogans – ‘Jai Javan Jai Kisan’. He promoted the White Revolution by creating National Dairy Development Board (supported the AMUL Milk co-operative) and the Green Revolution by setting up Food Corporation’s Act 1964.

    2. Khalistan Movement: Operation Black Thunder was commanded by Kanwar Pal Singh Gill (KPS Gill) began on 9 May 1988. The operation used snipers and minimum force under full public scrutiny.     5. Simply put, if a person receives money from abroad and keeps it with him/her without spending, then it does not add to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
    GDP (at market prices) is calculated using 1. Expenses towards household consumption, 2. Net investments, 3. Government costs and 4. Net trades (exports-imports).
    While there is no mention of remittances in the calculation of GDP, the amount spent on household consumption (for instance) gets added. So, earn well and spend well to increase GDP… 🙂

    6. Forest Survey of India (FSI) assesses forest cover of the country every 2 years by digital interpretation of remote sensing satellite data and publishes the results in a biennial report called ‘The state of Forest Report’

    (A) K.P.S Gill was the brave police officer who had eliminated the Punjab insurgency in toto. Use of brute force, encounters of known militants, a bounty for the killing of the militants were some of the measures taken by the then Punjab police echelon.

    Arvind Subramanian is the Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) to the Government of India.

    Raghuram Rajan was recently embroiled in a controversy over the implementation of a 20:80 gold scheme during his tenure at RBI’s helm, which allegedly benefitted a few players including Mehul Choksi’s Gitanjali Group, which is also found involved in India’s biggest banking scam at the Punjab National Bank (PNB).
