New Delhi, Feb. 1: The Union budget today proposed an agency that would conduct “all entrance examinations for higher education” but the IITs, which hold their own admission tests, hoped that an exception would be made in their case.

Finance minister Arun Jaitley said the agency would be an autonomous body but made no allocations for it.

“Government proposes to establish a National Testing Agency as an autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organisation to conduct all entrance examinations for higher education institutions,” Jaitley said in his budget speech.
