Learning English becomes fun if we can detect patterns in usage.

In an earlier video, we explained the difference between few and a few. Both those terms are used for countable nouns, that is, nouns that can be counted, for example, tables, chairs, men, dogs etc. You can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/E15cDHxUaOE

A similar difference applies to little and a little, which are used with uncountable nouns, that is nouns that cannot be numbered, for example, water, salt, happiness, pain etc.

Both little and a little denote a small quantity but they differ in what the speaker is trying to say. Watch this video to understand, with examples and pictures, the small but significant difference between ‘a little’ and ‘little’. While on the topic, we also explain the use of ‘the little’.

After watching this video, you will be confident of using these terms in your day-today conversations.
