An easy way to carry is to duplicate your 2 inputs and put one set into an and gate and one in an xor gate.
If the xor is outputting a 1, then there is 1 marble, and if the and is outputting a 1 there are 2

I taught a lot about this, and I found a super simple way to do it, with one kind of Logic gate and no other marble than the input ones.
