National Mission for Clean Ganga(NMCG) is the implementation wing of National Ganga River Basin Authority(NGRBA) set up under Min. of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in 2011 but now works under the control of Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, as per revised allocation business rules of 2014. The aim is to clean Ganga and its tributaries in a comprehensive manner.[1] Uma Bharti is the present Minister for Ministry for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India.

Namami Gange a program led by the Modi’s government undertaken in July 2014 Budget with an estimated budget of 20,000 Crores.[2] NMCG aims not only at cleaning the river Ganga and its Ghats but also in setting up of various biodiversity centers, crematoria and other construction and modernizations of Ghats along the banks of river Ganga. With the construction of new sewage treatment plants and Launch River surface cleaning projects, Namami Gange focuses on abatement of pollution with a radical approach to ensure pure water quality and sustainable development.

The program Namami Gange also includes involving states and grassroots level institutions such as urban- local bodies and Panchayati raj Institutions for its implementations. The program stresses on the coordination of various ministries of the central and state government.[3]

The program includes massive afforestation activities for the conservation of biodiversity. Flora and fauna to be considered as the major part of the scheme. Effective plans and policies to be carried out in conserving dolphins, turtles and varieties of fish.[4]

The act also envisages breeding and releasing of turtles to clean wetlands. On January 05, 2016 the Central Government launched the first company of Ganga Task Force Battalion which was deployed at Garhmukteshwar.
