Here we are seeing the splitup of total medical seats in our country. There are close to 60000+ MBBS seats. Out of these 60K seats, close to 5000

seats are filled through All India Medical Counselling. Rest of the 55000 seats are filled by the state counselling authority. The state government fills the major

chunk of medical seats within the state. These seats are filled with students who belong to that state. Lots of students have asked me whether student from one state

can appear in state medical counselling of other state.Students should understand that they are eligible only for counselling within their state. If your parents live

in state-A and you have moved to state-B for your education, then in that case you can apply for state-A medical counselling. State government fills nearly 40000 seats

in total. The fees for state quota in government medical colleges are heavily subsidized and fees for state quota in private medical colleges are moderately

subsidized. For many states, the government quota seats in private self-financing colleges stands close to 4 lakhs/annum. The remaining 15000 seats are filled by the

private medical college itself under management quota and NRI quota. The tuition fees for these seats are not subsidized by government. Tuition Fees for management seat starts from 12 lakhs/annum and goes upto 28 lakhs/annum.

Hope you remember that, All India Quota fills close to 5000 seats. Look at the 2017 statistics. this shows the NEET cutoff range and total number of students who scored more than that Cutoff. Only 50 students in 2017 NEET exam, got more than 675 marks. Above 575 marks, there were 6000 students. This means last year, if all

seats were of general category, these 6000 students would have grabbed all the All India Quota Seats. Last year, if your NEET score is above 575+, you had chance to get seat in AIQ .

Lets dig down further. 36000 students scored above 475+. This means students who scored above 475+ had chance to get seat in government medical college under state quota. Lets look at the next data. 48000 students scored about 450+. If all medical seats are for unreserved category, these 48000 students would have grabbed all state quota seats in govt as well as private medical colleges. This statistics reveals that if you had scored above 450+, last year you had chance to get medical seat in subsidized fees.

Eventhough, these statistics give rough idea about what type of seat you can get for your NEET score this year. It is not correct. This is because there are lot of reservations and these reservations vary from state to state. For example Karnataka has special quota for students who studied in Kannada medium. There are state who have regional quota. Unless otherwise you understand the reservation system within your state, you cannot correctly predict whether you will be able to get state quota seat. NEETLab will help you understand this reservation system in your state and many other information related to medical counselling.
