Last year Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Namakkal got 1,750 medical seats.( Total govt seats in TN is just around 2400 )This year, only 364 seats went to candidates from these districts. ( Mugup strategy wont work anymore) .Interestingly, last year, from Ariyalur (incidentally the district where S. Anitha who committed suicide) only four candidates could get into medical colleges. This year, as many as 21 candidates have got in. More candidates from Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts have been admitted to medical colleges under the State government quota than in the past when aggregate Class 12 marks were used as admission criteria. P.S Seats split – 85% to Tamilnadu n 15% for All India quota. This has been the case even before Neet. So, only Tamilians will get the 85% seats of Tamilnadu n not outsiders.
Statistics: TN Govt had been conducting common exam for engineering n medicine. It was stopped from 2006 , citing the exclusion of rural students. But this in noway helped rural students. According to RTI from Govt schools only 340 students got into govt. Medical colleges btwn 2006-16. The sole beneficiaries of 12th mark criteria was the so called mug up schools from namakkal n nearby areas. Need proof? Read the first line.
