We would like to find a point connecting the earth and moon where the resultant gravitational force is zero. A third mass kept any where in between the earth and the moon experience gravitational force of attraction and hence it is experiencing two opposite forces. If the two forces are equal in magnitude, then they cancel each other and a neutral gravitational point between them.
