In this videos, we will a very important concept in which most of the students faces difficulty that is, how to prove whether a function is ONE-ONE and ONTO.
We will understand in a very simple way, how ONE-ONE and ONTO functions are defined:
A function f:X→Y is ONE-ONE, if the IMAGES of distinct elements in X are DISTINCT.
A function f:X→Y is ONTO, if every element of Y is the IMAGE of some element of X
A function f:X→Y is ONTO, if for every y∈Y, there exists an element in x, such that f(x)=y.

Class 12 NCERT Exercise 1.2 Questions 1 is discussed in this video.
Show that the function f:R_*→R_* be defined as: f(x)=1/x is one-one and onto, where R_* is the set of non-zero real numbers. Is the result true, if the domain R_* is replaced by N with codomain being same as R_*?
