Trainee IPS Officer Jailed For Cheating In UPSC Exam
In what appears to be a scene lifted from popular film ‘Munnabhai’, a trainee IPS officer was caught using a wireless gadget to get answers, while taking the UPSC exam
The incident happened in a secondary school in Egmore of Tamil Nadu on October 30.
27-year-old Safeer Karim was arrested by the Intelligence Bureau sleuths, while he was on a call with his wife Joicy Joy, who was in Hyderabad and helping him cheat in the exam.
A native of Ernakulam in Kerala, Karim cleared the UPSC exam in 2015 with All India rank of 112. He also cleared the CAT exam.
He was an electronics graduate and course director at a civil services coaching centre.
At present, he is serving as station-in-charge at Nanguneri sub-division in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
On Monday, Karim attended the general studies paper at a school in Egmore. Like other candidates, he handed over a cellphone to the invigilators, before entering the exam hall. But then, he managed to sneak in another phone.
He was reportedly getting answers from his wife Joicy and friend Rambabu from Hyderabad, through a high-end gadget that was connected to his Google Drive and Gmail account.
On growing suspicious, the Intelligence officials caught Karim red-handed cheating in the exam. He was arrested and handed over to the Chennai police.
On being alerted, the Hyderabad Intelligence and Task Force sleuths jointly detained Karim’s wife and friend.
The trainee IPS officer was remanded in judicial custody. It is learnt that he helped his sister clear an exam for junior assistant post with ISRO, recently!
