This English lesson gives you examples of the present perfect and simple past. Here are the phrases I used:
1: what have you been up to?
This is very common in everyday English. It means “what have you been doing recently?”
2: I took a bit of a break
I use the simple past here because it’s in the past. I’m back to work now!
3: We’ve been going to the pool a lot this summer
4: We haven’t gone away this summer
To go away (in this example) means to go on vacation/holiday.
5: I watched a lot of the World Cup
The World Cup is now over. This is in the past.

6: I’ve been working out every day
