  1. CSIR is an autonomous body and India’s premier research and development (R&D) organisation. It was established in 1942.

It operates as an autonomous body registered under the Registration of Societies Act of 1860.

It is mainly funded by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

CSIR’s R&D activities include aerospace engineering, ocean sciences, structural engineering, metallurgy, life sciences, chemicals, mining, food, petroleum, leather, and environment.

    Some achievements –

NITI-Aayog has chosen the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad for hosting the ₹10-crore Atal Incubation Centre for biotechnology start-ups.
    Salient Facts
The centre will identify promising start-ups and create facilities for them to succeed in the field of biotechnology.
The CCMB is one of the 10 organisations that have been identified to host the ‘Atal Incubation Centre’

CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (SERC), Chennai, has come up with a cost-effective toilet.

The toilet is expected to be set up in those areas where toilet coverage is not available.

    NEERDHUR

    text to speech machine
device completly wireless and open source hardware and software
    work in print and e-files
currently in English and hindi language

  2. CSIR covers a wide spectrum of science and technology –
    1)radio and space physics
    2) oceanography, geophysics
    3) chemicals, drugs, genomics
    4) biotechnology and nanotechnology
    5)aeronautics, instrumentation, environmental issues
It provides significant technological intervention in many areas with regard to societal efforts, which include environment, health, drinking water, food, housing, energy, farm and non-farm sectors.

  3. #Yaws
A chronic infectious disease caused by a bacterium Treponema Pallidum Partenuse.
It affects the skin, bones, cartilages, and joints.
Yaws most often affects children in tropical regions of Africa , Asia ,and Latin America.

  4. The no-detention policy was introduced as a part of the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) under the Right to Education Act (RTE) in 2010. Under this policy, students up to class 8 are automatically promoted to the next class without being held back even if they do not get a passing grade. The no-detention policy under the RTE Act was to ensure that no child admitted in a school shall be held back in any class or expelled from school until the completion of elementary education.

there can be both pros and cons of the policy
One of the positive points in favour is that detaining children at an elementary education level damages their self-esteem and brings social stigma attached to failing in a class. In addition, the fear of examinations hurts a child’s developmental plans and does long-term damage.
By introducing a no-detention policy, it has also been correctly argued that it helps keep children stay away from social evils, including juvenile crimes.

no-detention policy can prove to be detrimental in the following ways

automatically promoting all students to the next class leaves very little incentive for students to learn and teachers to teach well. When students know that they won’t be retained for academic performance or low attendance, it builds very little motivation. It ends up hurting the learning interest of the other students who want to study further.
Teachers lose interest as well and the overall quality of education imparted suffers.
TSR SUBRAMANIAM COMMITTEE has also recommended to limit this policy till 5th standard only

the policy should either be renovated with adequate changes to neutralize the ill effects or replaced with a new policy that would take a balanced approach. The prime objective should be to effect an all-round development of children and equipping them with life skills. The fact remains that today’s children are tomorrow’s future, and it is in our interest that we fix the issues we face before it gets too late.

    – It is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the skin, cartilages and bones.

    – It is caused by the spirochete bacterium Treponema pallidum pertenue.

    – It spreads by direct contact with the fluid from a lesion of an infected person.

    – It mainly affects children below 15 years of age.

    – India has officially received certificates from WHO, recognizing the elimination of Yaws and Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) from the country.

    #CSIR CONTRIBUTION :-

    – Min of Scince and Tech

    – Head is PM

    – Autonomous body & celebrated Platinum-Jubilee (75 years)

    – CSIR is presently supporting around 8500 Research fellows, awarded 2251 Junior Research Fellowships and 65 Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellowship.

    – CSIR is supporting more than 1000 research schemes to various universities.

    – CSIR is addressing national goals and Missions such as :-

    3) Samarth Bharat
    4) Make in India
    5) Innovate for India
    6) Start-up India

    – Today, CSIR is attempting a Parivartan from Knowledge creation to Value creation.

    – These includes emphasis on technology development and commercialization for the society, industry and the strategic sector, creation of S&T based entrepreneurship.

    – Its participation in the national Skill Development initiative in addition to human resource development.

    – The National Physical Laboratory (NPL), a constituent lab of CSIR, organized the India International Science Festival, (IISF) which brought together more than 500 Einstein enthusiasts.
