In a departure from tradition, a number of top scorers in the JEE (Advanced) from the city are could give traditional engineering courses a pass. Greater awareness about options beyond engineering has meant good news for pure science subjects, which is turning out to be the favourite for students who want to explore the world of research.

Despite impressive scores that almost guarantee entry into elite engineering institutions, these students are not fretting over which IIT they’ll be heading to. They have instead set their sights on nonengineering courses. Many of them have a penchant for physics -from string theory to quantum mechanics.
