New Delhi, March 25: The Centre has overruled objections from Bengal and Tamil Nadu and approved an all-India engineering exam that will from next year determine admission to all the eight lakh BTech seats across 3,400 colleges in the country.

But the states will have some elbowroom. They can admit students to their engineering colleges solely on the basis of their scores in the National Entrance Examination for Engineering and Architecture (NEEEA), or give some weightage to their board marks too.
