The GRE doesn’t require you to know standard deviation, you only need to understand the basic concepts behind standard deviation. Standard deviation is a measure of spacing, and is related by the range of the numbers in a list. If the range is the same in two separate lists, then the standard deviation is also the same and you can clearly see that all elements of List B are elements of List A +5.
Start by calculating the range of list A; 20 – 0 = 20. Then calculate the Range of list B; 25 – 5 = 20. The lists have the same ranges, and are spread out in the same in consecutive multiples of 5. We can then see that the standard deviations will be the same. The answer is Choice C the standard deviations of both lists are equal.
