UPSC civil services exam is considered one of the most difficult and prestigious examination in India.
Only 15k candidates qualify for mains out of 500k candidates that appear for prelims.
In this video we will discuss the UPSC syllabus 2018 for prelims and mains.

UPSC syllabus 2018 phase 1
Preliminary exam – CSAT

Civil services aptitude test (CSAT) is the first phase of preliminary exam of UPSC. It consists of two objective type papers.

Paper 1 general studies
This is mandatory to qualify in this paper for mains exam.
There are total 100 questions in this paper 200 marks in total.
The duration of the exam is 2 hours.

Paper 2 aptitude skills
In this paper the candidate has to score minimum 33% marks.
This paper is also qualifying paper. This paper consists of 80 questions.
Total marks for this paper are 200 and duration of the paper is 2 hours.

UPSC SYLLABUS 2018 FOR PAPER I
History of India and Indian National Movement.
Current events of national and international importance.
General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity, and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization General Science
Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.

UPSC SYLLABUS 2018 FOR PAPER II
Comprehension
Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
Logical reasoning and analytical ability
General mental ability
Decision-making and problem solving
Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.)
Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc.

UPSC Syllabus 2018 PHASE II: MAINS EXAMINATION
This is of total 1750 marks.
The IAS exam consists of 9 papers out of which 2 papers of 300 marks are of qualifying nature
and marks of these both papers are not counted in final total.

Any Indian language
English
And remaining 7 papers can be written in any of the languages that is mentioned
in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution or in English.
