  2. Changpas and gondpas are amongst tribes engaged in yak rearing and forms the basis of their livelihood through extracting hairs, fur, meat, milk of yak. Owing to the climate change and the accompanied global warming, the temperatures in himalayan region are increasing posing threats to the survival of yaks as several other mountainous species. Besides the difficulty yaks are facing in adapting to changing climatic conditions, threats are also in the form of dwindling pasture lands and meadows /grazing areas due to impacts on rainfall patterns driven by climate change and encroachment of lands for modern developmental or security projects. Additionally the migratory patterns of nomadic tribes is also getting impacted and to make their yaks survive better their upward journeys during summers augments.
Hybridization of yaks to develop better and more endurable hybrids be promoted to better survive in warming temperatures and initiatives for conservation of pasturelands be taken in addition to extending dedicated veterinary services for welfare of yaks.
