Ahmedabad: The JEE toppers from Gujarat say that the decision of the state government to make the exam optional for admission to engineering institutes in state has burdened students with two examinations — this despite the fact that more Gujarat board students are now qualifying for JEE Advanced examination.

The state government has made JEE optional from the year 2017-18 and has made GUJCET compulsory for admission in Gujarat. This year, over 11,500 students from the state have qualified for JEE Advanced examination. This is around 800 students more than in 2016 when only 10,700 had appeared for the advanced examination and 502 had qualified for admission to the IITs.
